Ways to get involved

Holy Family offers many opportunities to be of service.  To get involved contact the church office at 770 893-4525.
  • Prayer Shawl - This group meets the last Monday of each month in the church office parlor.  The members knit and bless completed prayer shawls.  There are many in the congregation who knit at home and bring shawls to the church for blessing and distribution. These cherished treasures are a tangible reminder of the caring hands of a caring congregation.
  • Freezer Patrol - Catalyzed by the gift of an upright freezer, a member of the pastoral care group conceived a ministry to keep ready-to-serve meals in a convenient location for anyone to carry out to parishioners.  Pam Kondos organizes the food, checks the freezer, and generates notices in Touchstone when needed.  The pastoral care team is grateful for the participation of the congregation in preparing the meals.
  • Healing Ministry - Healing ministers are available during communion in the east transept of the Nave during the 10:30 worship service to pray with parishioners facing illness, life challenges, or in gratitude.

  • Eucharistic visitors - Specially trained Eucharistic visitors are sent from a worship service to carry communion to those who are homebound.

  • Greeting Card Ministry - Provided and maintained by the Daughters of the King chapter, Mary Ann Bracegirdle sends cards of encouragement, thanksgiving, and sympathy.  Mary Sue Zercher also provides prayerful card support for our church family.

  • Pastoral Care Prayer Emails are available to those upon request.  This ministry is an up to date and current email of prayer needs and thanksgivings of the congregation.

  • Pastoral Visitors visit with those who have had surgery, are homebound, or would just enjoy company.  This interaction might include a social outing or transportation to a church function.  We welcome volunteers in this ministry.

  • Mapping Us -  Pastoral care leaders continue an ongoing effort to put each member of our church "on the map." With such a diverse geographic area, knowing where parishioners are helps pastoral care visitors and neighbors.  Big Canoe, Bent Tree, and Ellijay have been mapped.  Jasper, Ball Ground/Cherokee county and Dawsonville are in the process of being mapped.

  • Aging in Place -  One of the goals in the parish long range plan is to "become aware of and to strive to meet the needs of aging parishioners." In addition to providing acts of compassionate care, transportation is offered for evening functions at church for those who do not feel comfortable driving after dark.

  • Legacy Ladies - Pastoral Care is responding to another long range goal - incorporating newcomers into the life of the parish.  The goal "focuses on energizing programs that attract newcomers and visitors and nurtures them into active membership."  The "Legacy Ladies" is a group of newcomers who meet the second Monday of the month at noon on the Pavilion or in the Conference Center depending on the weather.  They bring their own lunch and enjoy getting acquainted with each other.  Often committee chairs and seasoned members of the church attend as well.  All women are invited to attend.
